Do you love Science fiction? Do you love Aliens? Do you love horror? Do you love questioning all of mankind? If so, you need to watch Parasyte. Parasyte is the journey of a sixteen year old Shinichi Izumi and Migi, the Parasyte. Think of Invasion of the Body Snatchers except the pods are replaced with Parasytes along with so many other things. LOOK THE PREMISE IS LIKE THE SHORT FILM/BOOK, BUT THIS SHOW IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL ON HOW THEIR STORY IS TOLD. This is Parasyte: The Attack on Humanity and Development of a Species! Some say it is an overrated anime, I don’t believe that. I think Parasyte is great series that is worth at least one full watch.

STORY: 8.5

I could just spoil it all for you, but that wouldn’t be a fun review now would it? As I have mentioned previously, the story is kind of like Invasion of the Bodysnatcher. Parasitic aliens decide to make a one way trip to Earth picking Japan for their residence because…well Japan is a good vacation spot for aliens along with Maine. Weird stuff happens in Maine. These Parasytes (look that’s how it is spelled in the show, leave me alone grammar senpai) burrow into the brains through ears or nose of their targets when they are vulnerable for feeding and other purposes. Our protagonist Izumi Shinchi gets visited by one lone Parasyte named Migi. Migi tries to take over Shinichi’s brain, but he fails and decides to burrows through his arm instead. Migi ends up becoming Izumi’s right hand retaining all of his knowledge and personality. From there, a bond is formed between the two and it is not like Izumi was like “OH MY GOD! YES A PARASYTE HAND WITH POWERS! NOW I WILL BE COOL!”. He was freaked out at first, but once he learns what other Parasytes are doing to humans Shinichi finds his purpose: to fight for humanity. From the Government knowing about the Parasytes to the Shinichi’s majors transformations to the Parasytes trying to better themselves to balancing a social life, this story has many twists, turns, and cliffhangers that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The cast of Parasyte contains a wide range of personalities. I am sure you will become attached to at least one character in this show. Our main characters are Migi & Izumi. I enjoyed Migi the most for his intelligence and heartlessness. Migi wants to learn more about where he came from and has no time for anyone getting in his way. He may be heartless, but he does care enough to protect and co-operate with his host. Izumi Shinichi is more of a nerd transitioning into fearless machine and transforming overall as a person. Together they become a team that learns and relies on each other. The supporting cast is pretty amazing. For example, Izumi’s best friend and possible love interest Murano Satomi. She is always making sure Izumi is okay and still Izumi. How about Kana Kimishima is a delinquent who through great story telling becomes something more than just a bully. Finally, Takeshi Hirokawa is a person of power who knows about the Parasytes and is doing something about it. There are so many supporting characters that play their parts very well in this show. Without the supporting cast, PARASYTE would have been quite cliche and boring. It definitely would not have as much depth.

The animation was handled by MADHOUSE who is behind some amazing anime like Death Note, No Game No Life, The new Hunter X Hunter reboot, and ONE PUNCH MAN! I couldn’t find anything animated poorly. MADHOUSE always does a wonderful job with the animation. The Animation wasn’t mesmerizing, but it was far from awful and okay. A stellar job from MADHOUSE! You can always count on MADHOUSE!

The opening theme “Let Me Hear” by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas is very likable. It is like heavy metal meets autotune which I found pretty cool. I enjoyed the song, but I didn’t listen to it all the way through for every episode like I did ONE PUNCH MAN. It is something you can hear 23 times straight through and enjoy, but I did skip it to get right in to the story as it progressed.”Let Me Hear” fits the overall tone of the show as well. It is kind of dark yet, it pumps you up for the next episode. It’s not catchy, besides the opening lines of the song, but I don’t think Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas meant it to be. Great song though. The ending theme “IT’S THE RIGHT TIME” by Daichi Miura  is perfect for this show. With all the chaotic events that go on in this show, it is good to hear a soft and delicate ballad about moving forward and human emotions (which play a huge part in Izumi’s progression..). I enjoyed this theme more than the opening theme and I like heavy metal, but Daichi Miura’s voice is like silk to me. I really enjoyed it. I must point out ALL of the background music was Incredible too! It was like dub-step meets trap in some cases. The background tunes sometimes felt out of place during some of the drama, but when it works, it works really well!

Additional Thoughts

PARASYTE does not need a sequel. I feel like everything wrapped up very well. There weren’t any real loose ends I could think of. PARASYTE does not need spin-off show either. I know one could be created  about another person with a PARASYTE years after the events in this anime, but it is not necessary. I only cried one time during this whole anime and that was in episode 18. 18 is such a tearjerker. I really enjoyed PARASYTE and I would watch it again at a later date with people so I can get different perspectives of this anime.

Should you kill something that’s trying to live on your planet or should you let it be and watch what happens? Do you let the PARASYTES or body snatchers continue to feed and research humanity learning their purpose or do you do something about it to make your world a safer place? Do you gain more sympathy for an organism if you are affected by one especially an organism that is intelligent and has a personality? Would this narrative expose completely different perspective if Izumi was simply fighting alien organism for humanity? I can answer that last question with of course! It would be every movie and book about humans fighting aliens for mankind. PARASYTE will make you think about your humanity and all of those that inhabit the world we live in. I believe Izumi’s speech at the end of this anime sums up all these points in a much greater fashion and better than I ever could. PARASYTE is different. it is a psychological joyride with heavy dosages of Sci-fi and horror. If you like different types of anime out of your comfort zone give it a watch. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it because everyone has different tastes, but IT IS WORTH A WATCH. Sure we aren’t half fish or half alien organism, but to quote Izumi “it would be human arrogance to think we understand everything that is not human”.

Overall Rating: 8.7

One Punch Man Review

One Punch Man 3.jpg

Hello Internet! Today is a special day to review a special anime that is becoming a phenomenon! I’ve been avoiding this show for a while because I just didn’t believe the hype. Also, I cannot stand shows that are hyped by the anime community as an awesome experience when in reality it falls short from its expectations. Thankfully, One Punch Man did not fall short. It has only been a year, but One Punch Man has achieved cult status. After viewing the show, I completely understand why because One Punch Man deserves all the praise it has been receiving. Welcome to my special leap day review of One Punch Man! In honor of Saitama, this review will be 1000 words or less.

Story: 8
One Punch Man.jpg

The story of One Punch Man is simply hilarious. It pokes a lot of fun of the traditional tropes of an shonen anime. You know a hero trains to get stronger, loses, finds out there is a big boss, loses, gets stronger, filler, gets stronger, and eventually beating the big boss for the grand happy ending leading to another big boss or season 2. This show does none of that. Instead our protagonist, Saitama, breaks all of those rules. He is a hero for fun who is extremely overpowered to the point he is bored of fighting. For a second, I thought Saitama was struggling with his humanity while exploring deeper ideas besides finding an opponent worthy of fighting.I guess that’s just me. Saitama is joined by a cyborg named Genos who has a very decent story as well. It was quite shonen-ish, but great overall. I’m not gonna go into too many details because who needs a long ass origin story or explanation. Just know when the adventure begins, be prepared to enjoy the journey because I did.

Animation: 10OK Saitama.jpg
IT’S A MADHOUSE! MADHOUSE is simply amazing, I don’t know what else to say. I don’t think I have ever seen a bad Madhouse show. The animation is flawless, crisp, and simple. The OK Saitama face is definitely a highlight along with just about every scene Tornado is in. I left it for you to laugh at. LAUGH WITH ME DAMN IT! LOOK IT IS MADHOUSE…MADHOUSE IS NOT GONNA LET YOU DOWN. THE ANIMATION IS VERY PLEASING TO THE EYES BECAUSE IT IS MADHOUSE!

Music: 10One Punch Man 5.jpg
ONE PUNCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Listen, yall this is one of the best opening theme songs I have ever heard in my life. I’m not exaggerating it is as simple as that. “The Hero” will get you so pumped, so hyped, so prepared to take on the world and punch stuff! I scream the One Punch part every time I hear it. Jam Project knocked it out of the park with this theme.

ISN’T THAT AMAZING?! This song alone gives the music score a ten! BTW the ending theme (“Hoshi yori Saki ni Mitsukete Ageru (星より先に見つけてあげる)” by Hiroko Moriguchi) is pretty awesome.

Here is that theme for your listening pleasure.

Characters: 10One Punch Man 4.jpg

Saitama – The strongest hero in the universe point blank, I am declaring Saitama the strongest human in the anime universe. In order to become a hero, Saitama went under an intense training & diet regiment to obtain his goal to the point he went bald. He has acheived that goal and you would think he would be an egomaniac. WRONG. Saitama is a laid back, care free, frugal, hero for fun that world doesn’t seem to notice despite Saitama saving the city frequently. Saitama is the king of training and sales at the supermarket all at the age of 25.

Genos – The lone cyborg willing to get stronger under the training of Saitama. Genos is very loyal, but he is extremely serious like most shonen characters. His origin story created the classic “20 words or less” rule which I find very amusing. I was thinking the show was gonna shift more towards his story at one point. If this show as about Genos, this would have been your typical anime about one character’s journey to retribution.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS -NOW listen I am not gonna name every single supporting character because EVERY SINGLE SUPPORTING CHARACTER IS FREAKING AMAZING! THEY ALL ADD SOMETHING TO EACH EPISODE! IT may be a little moment or a one liner, but damn I gotta admit this show made each one of the supporting characters feel important when they were on the screen. I absolutely loved the way this show treated their supporting cast because each one of them could have an episode or an series or OVA about them. Mumen Rider is hilarious while Handsome Mask the other word for a male rooster! The heroes association alone could have an anime & I WOULD WATCH EVERY SINGLE EPISODE.

Additional MentionsOne Punch Man 7.jpg
1. A huge thank you to Shingo Natsume for directing this anime and making One Punch Man everything it is supposed to be.

2.  I had thought that left me a tad conflicted. While Saitama is extremely powerful…ok over powered, would I be rooting for him if he was the villain of the anime? I think the answer would still be yes. Saitama is likable and I think that’s what sets him apart from antagonist that are considered cheap (I’m looking at you Aizen). What do you think?

3. Second season please?! PLEASE?!

ConclusionOne Punch Man 6.jpg

One Punch Man is simply amazing. It was a wonderful ride that pokes fun at the shonen genre along with tropes of anime. The story isn’t something too memorable, but it is hilarious. Everything else besides that is perfect. I can understand how some people may not like OPM since everything ends in 1 punch & the comedy may get a bit repetitive sometimes due to the punchline is the same despite a different setup. Besides that, One Punch Man is an amazing anime that I highly recommend you to watch!

Saitama can beat just about anyone…yep I said it. GET ON THE SAITAMA TRAIN

Final Score: 9.5

Till next review!

Golden Boy Review!!!

Golden Boy

Golden Boy

In 1995, the anime world learned how to STUDY! OH how I wish there was so much more to STUDY in Golden Boy! I really do! Golden Boy is about a twenty-five year old, easy-going, perverted, job hopping, part-timer named Kintarou Ooe who quit law school because to Kintarou it was too easy. You see despite being a complete pervert Kintarou Ooe is a genius. A genius who is spending his days studying life. STUDY is his motto and after you finish watching Golden Boy it just might be yours too.

Story: 8

To be honest, the show overall doesn’t have an long arc or long plot. It is just there. There is a great back story that I wish was explored much more than the lessons in each show. I mean who wouldn’t want to know how Kintarou Ooe became so smart to the point where he can drop out of law school and travel the world studying life? Was Kintarou an alien or is he just really eager to learn?! WHO KNOWS! I WISH WE COULD HAVE KNOWN BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE WATCHED THAT!!! Besides the awesome backstory, there is no real drawn out adventure to why Kintarou does what he does. The way this show plays out reminds me of a sillier, perverted version of Mushishi where the protagonist goes from place to place teaching a lesson or solving trouble. Unlike Mushishi, I noticed in the majority of episodes tend to play out the same except two of the six. This isn’t a bad thing, but the formula to how some characters are introduced stays the same. The formula is different in episode three, but that’s one tiny variation. Episode three is a much watch by the way. It is definitely the stand out of episode of the series. Every episode in Golden Boy is top notch and definitely rewatchable!

Animation: 9

The animation was done by Shueisha and KSS. It was produced by Rikizo Chino (Shueisha) and Kazuo Suzaki (KSS). I won’t lie I am completely biased to the art and animation in Golden Boy. Why? I’ll tell you. The art direction reminds me of shows like Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ronin Warriors, etc. I grew up watching animes like this so that means totally biased. I really appreciate the  old school style animation.

Characters: 10

I would touch on the supporting characters (Haha), but there is no real reason to. I feel like describing them will spoil some episodes. They aren’t forgettable as a supporting cast, they are great characters. I just don’t see the point of doing a deep analysis on characters that show up a total of two times. There is only one main character that truly matters in this anime and that’s the Golden Boy, Kintarou Ooe! As I have said before, Kintarou’s mission is to study life and learn all he can from it. It is a very admirable task I must say. He travels on his Crescent Moon mountain bike from town to town getting whatever part time jobs he can. I’m sure he has a huge extended family due to his travels. On the outside, he portrays a bumbling, perverted idiot with a toilet fetish. Seriously he has a toilet gag that happens four times in the series. IT is very….hilarious and disgusting because well it is. It is top level pervert game though. However, this is all apart of Kintarou’s master plan. That’s just what he wants you to think because Kintarou is a genius after all. There is so much more to the Golden Boy than people know! He wants you to judge the cover of the book instead of actually reading it. You see Kintarou truly cares about every single lady and person he runs into. Kintarou is a very compassionate, complex, strong, humorous, genius. He will go to any lengths to protect the ones he cares for. From taking a beating to covering up the truth to shield a friend’s feelings, Kintarou will save his friends from pain and suffering. Believe it or not he reminds me of Ryu from street fighter. Instead of searching for a good fight, he is searching for great life lessons and women. I feel like he is a very mysterious character too. It isn’t weird he is very excited to learn because I am the same way, but what is his overall mission once he is done learning about life? How long will he study? When will he settle down?! The world may never know. This is the great mystery of Kinatrou Ooe! A very complex character who will definitely sniff your ass or the toilet seat you sit on if you are lady. Kintarou Ooe the classic man.

Soundtrack: 7

The opening theme was done by Joyo Katayanagi. It is called “Opening” and I found it very catchy. A dope instrumental can go a long way. The ending theme is called “Study A Go! Go!” was done by Golden Girls, Hiroyuki Kitakubo, Saito Kanji, and Tadamisu Hiro. While the theme did fit with the Kintarou’s motto, I found myself skipping it more than singing along with it. It’s not bad, but I just didn’t care too much for it.

Additional Mentions

Kintarou Ooe’s adventures could be endless. I feel like six episodes wasn’t enough because I got extremely invested in Kintarou’s character. I wish it was longer so we could have gotten the chance to explore Kintarou’s backstory! I wanted to see if he would settle down in town and be epic there. I wanted so much more, but I understand why limit it to six episodes. Too much of a good thing can turn sour. Bow out leaving the crowd wanting more instead of over feeding them I guess.

SHOULD YOU WATCH THIS WITH YOUR PARENTS?! NO and YES. No because well of your parents are squeamish at boobs, perverts and sex stuff just watch it alone. If they are cool let them experience the greatness of Golden Boy.

My initial thoughts Golden Boy was simple. It is about a lucky perverted guy who gets laid at the end of every episode. I’m so glad I was wrong about half of that lol. A pervert is easy to spot out in the anime world.

Golden Boy is one of the classic comedic animes that goes underrated in my eyes. I’m sure it was big in the 90s, but due to it’s “raunchy” content (which really is not that bad) the show may have gotten overlooked for more kid friendly, action oriented shows. The show is only six episodes which is about two hours and tweny three minutes! I’m sure you can find the show on youtube, crunchyroll, the internet or just buy the blu-ray if they have it. Golden Boy is worth your time! You will laugh! You will yell at the screen! You will realize being a genius is awesome! You will want more! Most importantly you will embrace, the perverted genius known as Kintarou Ooe!

State of the Blog UNION 2015!!! UPDATES AND THOUGHTS!

Happy New Year and Hello everyone! It’s Matt. How are you doing today? I hope you are doing well and continuing to fight for a brighter day! I wanted to discuss a few changes I had in mind for my blog going into 2016. I know I this year I wasn’t as consistent as I should have been with I’ve Got An Issue. I should have had one every week, but life happened. New opportunities present themselves, work was heavy, life dropped blessings & lessons, and I realized how short time is even on a day off. Time moves very quickly y’all! So I apologize to anyone who checked my blog every Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for a new I’ve Got An Issue. I am attempt to be more consistent in 2016 on my blog.

I have to give a big shoutout to the 59 people following this blog. I really appreciate it. I thought I wouldn’t get pass ten followers tops on here! Y’all are the real MVPS for that. You guys are one more reason I want to produce more content for y’all next year. Some of it will be for you to read and possibly hear next year. Yes hear! I also want to build a better relationship with all of you. I mean we should work together right?! We should throw feedback to one another too! So I’ll definitely be checking out some of your writings. This isn’t a follow for follow blog. It’s not about the numbers, it’s about your content! I’ll be dropping in on some of your blogs more often in 2016. Who knows one of y’all can end up being my favorite in 2016!

NOW on to the changes that may come in 2016!

THIS IS THE BIG ONE! Let’s face it I love reviewing! I find this unusual joy of sharing my opinions about whatever I just watched, read, heard or even ate. SO I AM PUTTING IT INTO EXISTENCE THAT 2016 I WILL PRODUCE AT LEAST ONE REVIEW A MONTH OF SOMETHING. This may be hard for me, but I really want to do this. I feel like I am very capable of doing a review a month so why not at least try to do it you know? I am thinking mostly anime and movies since I have a formula for both (I’m still tweaking the movies formula too). This does not mean I will not be reviewing music, video games, books or food either. I did music before with Sam Smith’s album, but I did that out of pure depression and love. I love music too much to not review it too. I NEED TO REVIEW VIDEO GAMES…SIMPLE AS THAT. AS MUCH AS I GAME, I SHOULD BE REVIEWING THAT IS ALL. Books will be weird to review because I’d have to figure out a way to review it without spoiling anything. Food…well that’s the wildcard, I just thought of doing that haha. Conveying how food tastes with my words is going to be fun! So look forward to Monthly Reviews because it is going to happen, I AM GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Next Anime Review?!

Once I finished FLCL, I was supposed to watch another show, but life caught me…and laziness. SO the next anime review is going to be Golden Boy in January! It was supposed to follow FLCL right after I reviewed it, but I screwed up and did something else. I screwed up! I take the blame for that. Golden Boy is January mark that down! SO many more reviews to come!

I’VE GOT AN ISSUE IS HERE TO STAY! The series is going to continue! The only tweak I have to deliver is I want to get it on time. All those weeks off, I had Issues with a lot of stuff and I didn’t write about it. Shame on me. I am considering making an email for people to send their issues to so I can post them here just in case I don’t have one this week. Yes you get all the spotlight and credit for that Issue! Just let whatever or whoever have it! I’ll protect your anonymity! I’VE GOT AN ISSUE WILL BE ON TIME AND READY FOR 2016!

I know plenty of my followers like my poems. I’ll be honest I haven’t wrote many poems after I posted my last one. I will still post them on here, but I just do not know when. Just be on the look out I guess. You never know when one will pop up!

My brother & I have been discussing this since the start of the year. I think once we get everything in order, we will be starting a youtube channel! I will be posting videos from our channel on here if we ever start. YOU GUYS GET TO SEE OR HEAR ME AT LEAST IF WE START THE CHANNEL! I cannot make any promises about this. It is just a possibility!

For a couple years, I wanted to do a podcast and 2016 may make that a reality. My cousin and I are thinking of starting up a podcast next year dealing with love, relationships, entertainment, nonsense, and whatever we want to talk about really. We are still deciding on a name, but I want that to drop once I get my microphones stuff! I’ll be posting the links to those podcast episodes here too! It will work just like I posted my last music project here. Another possibility!

I may or may not surprise you in 2016! My short stories may or may not make an appearance next year. That is all.

There were no lists this year…that sucks. THERE WILL BE A COUPLE OF LISTS IN 2016! The first list will be in January. It will be my top ten favorite albums of 2015. I need time to listen to all ten again to decide the order and which I loved the most. So It will probably drop in the second or third week of January. It is gonna happen! Poor barren category has nothing in it 😦

Pro Wrestling

The final deal. We’ll I’ve been thinking of starting another blog up just for my pro wrestling thoughts! I could keep them here, but I noticed a lot of people don’t really read those. SO a blog dedicated to pro wrestling would be more sufficient. I may run that blog with a couple of friends or we may just make a podcast or something. I have no idea! It is just an idea for now! Don’t worry if you like my thoughts on pro wrestling, they will still be here…for now whenever I decide to write about them.

That’s all folks! I just wanted to touch base and let y’all know what was coming in 2016! Bless you all! Bless up! I hope everyone enjoys their day and have a wonderful 2016!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

FLCL Review

also known as

Once every blue moon, one anime gains the power to divide its community into two groups over time. Love or Hate. FLCL is one of those animes. To some, FLCL is considered a cult classic telling a beautiful story coupled with a great soundtrack, wonderful animation and unforgettable characters. To others, this anime is a huge crock of BS with forgettable characters, confusing animation/art direction, and a great soundtrack. Seriously, just go read some of the reviews on myanimelist.net. You’ll have a ball. For an anime that is six episodes and lasted for a year, this is a little unsettling. Speaking for myself, I am in the middle. I know I enjoyed watching Fooly Cooly, however, I finished the show extremely confused. FLCL can be considered one of those shows you just have to watch in order to understand what I mean.

Story: 7
If you asked anyone to explain what FLCL is about, answers may vary depending on you ask. Some say it is a coming of age story of a young kid growing into an adult while others say it has no story whatsoever. If you ask me, I really couldn’t tell you, but I do have some ideas. First, a spoiler free edition of the story goes a little something like this “Nothing amazing happens here. Everything is ordinary”. This is the first quote from episode one. A twelve boy named Naota Nandaba lives in a mundane town where nothing happens. He is “friends” or “more than friends” with a seventeen year old girl named Mamimi Samejima. Trust me, it is a very creepy theme in the show that made me a bit uncomfortable. Anyways a “nineteen year old? girl” makes a grand entrance on a motor bike named Haruko Haruhara and everything goes chaotic after it. This is the part where I shut up about the story because if I delegate any further, I will be rambling. Once I finished the show, I could see the themes of growing up or the road to maturity that most fans of the show speak of. I see another message about staying a kid and not rushing to grow up because it can bring utter chaos plus trouble if you do. I also see a show that has no story and tries to throw one together real fast with no actual pacing. One can argue that the story is just a big experimental piece that encourages the viewer to put the pieces together. I don’t know. Maybe making no sense was the whole plan? Not understanding the story completely was a really big gripe for me because I truly wanted to. I feel the story is the most riveting aspect of FLCL that will determine whether you’ll love or hate the show. I liked it yet it was a bomb of confusion.

Animation: 9.5
GAINAX. This one of the many animes done by the legendary anime studio GAINAX. Once I saw a their name on the show I knew the animation going to be amazing. What I didn’t expect is the various styles of animation this show took on. From a manga scene to a stylistic horror anime to an over the top action shows to a caligraphy drama scene to sports animes to even parodying South Park’s style, FLCL attempts to do it all. I find that very impressive. Maybe that explains why the show was drawn out over a year. If this show was longer, I bet GAINAX would have tackled even more animations styles. The fight scenes were very tight and sharp. You can even say they are pretty quick, but I did not see one sloppy animation in this entire show. GAINAX did one hell of a job with this show, but I can’t that surprised. They are the studio that did Neon Genesis Evangelion, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and Gurren Lagann. They are absolute bosses at animation no matter what type it is.

Characters: 8.5
I’m just going to cover the three main characters in this show. The supporting cast is fantastic, but there isn’t enough information on all of them to really provide a full fledged profile. These three characters are complex yet simple. You can sum them up in a couple of sentences and you could write a biography about all three if you wanted to.

Naota Nandaba – DO you remember when you were younger and you wanted to act older than you actually were? Naota reminds me of that. Naota is the main character of the FLCL. Naota can be considered the second lead character next to Haruko. He tries to act cool and more mature than he actually is. Very detached to the world too. He is very nonchalant despite all of the insane stuff going on in his city. He hangs out with friends his age along with Mamimi who is in high school. He is more annoyed when Mamimi tries to fool around with him and he gets mad when she acts out. He looks out for her. I think he is like this because he idolizes his big brother Tasuku. If I was Naota, he is probably thinking “this is what Tasuku would do”. He views Tasuku as a true adult while he views the adults around him as children. Tasuku is mentioned throughout the show, but he never makes an appearance. Naota struggles to grow up and stay his age with everything going around him. Be like your “big adult brother” or figure out who you are, who you like, and what to do amiss of this crisis that’s entered your life? It is a lot to take in if you were in his shoes. Naota is a great character full of depth and embodies the 12 year old wanting to grow up, but not knowing how.

Haruko “Vespa woman, Raharu, Haru” Haruhara – Jeeze she has a lot of nickname. Haruko can be viewed as a mysterious, badass, tomboy who’s here to inject some excitement in Naota’s life along with the town where nothing amazing happens. I also saw her as a manipulative, selfish person for how she used Naota. You will have to watch the story to understand why because I don’t want to give it away. She is hilarious and extremely energetic. She a good amount of dick jokes too. She is also the house maid of Naota’s house despite being a stranger to Naota. IT is hilarious. Haruko reminds Naota of his brother, which in turn reminds him of what an adult would do in certain situations. She exemplifies cool adult to Naota. Let’s make one thing clear without Haruko this “story” wouldn’t make a ton of sense. Once she makes her grand entrance this story becomes a roller coaster. Haruko is one of the most memorable characters in such a short series. To be honest, she is the show. She is the catalyst!

Mamimi Samejima – Known as “Naota’s Wife” to Naota’s friends in school, Mamimi is an caring, absentee high school student who is very childlike for her age with no real control over her life. She is seventeen, but she acts like a 13 year old. She is a pyromaniac. Ok let me rephrase that, she likes to burn things sometimes. She is a chain smoker too, but only when she is stressed out or doesn’t get what she wants. She and Naota tend to hang under a bridge and sometimes mess around. Clearly, she is sexually frustrated. Mamimi doesn’t do anything too explicit on camera to Naota, but she does things like nibble on his ear and stuff. She does this because Mamimi used to be Tasuku’s girlfriend till he moved to America. She does it to hold on to him I guess. Mamimi likes to take care of people who aren’t strong willed yet she isn’t very strong willed when she doesn’t have a hold on herself. She may be very destructive at times too when she is alone. It is also hinted that she may come from a poor or broken family which leads her to bad attendance plus the break up with Tasuku she won’t let go of. Mamimi going through the ringer.

Soundtrack: 10
RIDE ON SHOOTING STAR!!! This song brings back so many memories. I remember when I was 13 and heard this song. Ride On Shooting Star was one of the first anime themes I had in my iPod. This is one of the greatest ending themes of all time. NOT UP FOR DEBATE. YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO FEEL IT. Ride On Shooting Star is definitely up there in the top ten anime closing themes. FLCL doesn’t have a opening theme, but it doesn’t need one. All of the music throughout the show makes up for that including that bad ass theme song. The Pillows are amazing. I became a fan of their music after hearing that song when I was thirteen. I advise you to go listen to some of their stuff. Despite the language barrier, I feel it! Most of the music from this show comes from the album “Happy Bivouac” which is freaking amazing. Whoever decided to pick The Pillows for this anime did a wonderful job because it is a perfect fit. I can’t imagine any other compositions for this show that is not The Pillows. 10/10 would listen to over and over again.

Additional Mentions
I heard there was going to be a reboot of FLCL due to Production IG acquiring the rights to the show. If there was going to be a reboot of FLCL, I would enjoy if they really fleshed out the story instead of going all rapid fire. I like the experimental type of story where we viewers have to put the piece together, however, the characters are too interesting to not know the full story in my opinion. Just when I was getting attached to the characters the show is over. I felt there was supposed to be a sequel too because of a hint at the end of the show. So a reboot would be great as long as it kept the same soundtrack and animation style. I would hate to see a gritty space, Sci-Fi anime called FLCL. Keep it in that area of funny and serious. It may not even be a reboot, Production IG could have just acquired the rights just to have em. Who knows? Time will tell.

Review Conclusion

Either you will love FLCL for its over the top, rapid fire, experimental coming of age story along with great main and supporting characters, soundtrack, and animation or you will hate FLCL for not having enough story and pacing, forgettable characters, convoluted animation. YOU WILL NOT HATE THIS SHOW BECAUSE OF THE SOUNDTRACK BECAUSE THAT EQUALS A SWIFT ROUND HOUSE TO THE HEAD OR A HAYMAKER TO THE HEAD IF YOU CAN’T GET YOUR LEG UP THAT HIGH. You could just be like me. In the middle, trying to figure out why you enjoyed yourself so much when there wasn’t much of a story that you could piece together. Maybe a story isn’t the most important aspect of a show sometimes. Maybe the story doesn’t have to make a whole lot of sense or have a huge plot for the viewer to enjoy the experience. Maybe so or Maybe no. Hate or Love It, FLCL is going to stay on top and will continue to be a cult classic while gaining love and hate from each person who experiences this fun OVA.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun Review

HELLO EVERYONE! I am back with another anime review! This time I am taking on Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun! Was it good? Did it suck? Did I laugh? Did I cry? Find out in this review if this show is worth your time!!!!

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun
Also Known As
Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-Kun.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun 3

Let’s say right now, reading this, you are sixteen years old. You are in High School and like someone…a lot. You remember that first time you liked someone to the point where you felt like you were going crazy? Everything they did was gold and they could do nothing wrong? Yeah… it is that first like. Let’s say you meet this person at the end of school and you confess your feelings to that person. You heart and mind are racing. This could go really bad or exactly like you thought it. This person hands you an autograph of his manga name.

You are now that person’s assistant.

This is exactly how it starts. This Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun. Premiering last year, this anime is a “romantic” comedy slash parody in some sorts. Nozaki-Kun really goes into the mind of a manga artist creating a monthly romance manga. Hence the title Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-Kun. It is almost satire of the entire romantic comedy genre from beginning to end. Nozaki-Kun is definitely a show worth watching full of gut busting jokes. We need more shows like this.

Story: 7
Remember that whole spiel in the intro of this review? Here it is again except you aren’t 16 this time. YOU ARE YOU! Now listen! Chiyo Sakura is a 16 year old girl who confesses her love to Umetarou Nozaki, a popular manga artist no one knows about. She doesn’t really say I like you in the confession, instead she mistakenly says she is a big fan. Nozaki misunderstands this confession as a fan giving his mangas’ praise. He gives her an autograph. This leads to Chiyo using another poor choice of words (“I always want to be with you”) to express her feelings. Nozaki makes her his assistant by inviting her over to his house to work on some manga.

This is the main story pretty much. Girl loves boy, boy loves work, girl loves boy so much that she will do anything to learn more about him even being his assistant and both have hilarious friends/inspirations. That’s it. If you were looking for the boy to realize the girl loves him, someone new appears, the girl begins to like that person, the friends want one to go with the other, someone is jealous of one person liking the other, and the main character should show it back like any other show, you are mistaken. I was fooled for a bit expecting another confession somewhere in the show. I was expecting this show to be a typical rom com. I’m glad this show threw a couple curveballs.

Honestly, “Nozaki-Kun” does not have a long arc or multiple sub-arcs. It isn’t trying to be a comedy drama or an extreme parody. It isn’t like “Comic Party” or “Bakuman.” where an artist need to meet a deadline to get their manga out. “Nozaki-Kun” is a straight up comedy that wants you to laugh. Nothing more, nothing less.

Animation: 8.5
The animation was handled by Doga Kobo. They do very good work even though it seems like they are pretty new to the anime scene. This is the first show I’ve seen done by them and I am impressed. The style was very appropriate for the anime. I believe there were some nods to mangas stylistically. I probably didn’t catch those since I don’t read a lot of manga, but it was nice. The show flowed very well. Everything was drawn properly. I do recall a shot being reused for Nozaki’s tools, but that is a small detail. Overall I enjoyed what I looked at. Great job Doga Kobo!

Characters: 9.5
Before I talked about all these fantastic characters, I must let you know that they make the show. Without these ensemble of characters, this show would have fell flat on its face. Without them, the comedy would have fell flat. Without these characters, I don’t know what this show would be. There are seven main characters and each of them plays certain role in the show. I swear all this makes sense once you watch the show.

Umetarou Nozaki – This is our main protagonist of this show; his name is in the title so he’s is kind of a big deal. He was the captain of the middle school basketball team. He is also known in the manga world as Sakiko Yumeno, the creator of the monthly series called “Let’s Love~”. He is a genius to me. He is also oblivious sometimes. Who am I kidding? He is oblivious just about all the time. I think he knows Chiyo likes him, but who knows? He has no real experience with love like myself lol. Nozaki is like me when it comes down to creating things. He creates based off of experiences or inspiration of other people. The way he gets inspired is that of a sponge. A sponge of experiences. You have to see it to believe it. All of his research methods are for his story and everything and I mean everything relates to love. The most basic conversation could become a point for his story. Nozaki is a monotone, tall, lazy genius who has no idea people likes him or that’s just what he wants you to think. I definitely relate to him the most minus the tall part lol.

Chiyo Sakura – ADORABLE. Chiyo Sakura is ADORABLE. An adorable puppy lol. The way she expresses how much she likes Nozaki is adorable. I wish I could do that for someone I liked a lot. If you didn’t know by now, she is the female protagonist of the show. She is the one who unsuccessfully tried to confess to the oblivious dope Nozaki, but hey she got a sweet gig as the assistant. As the assistant she is awesome at doing beta for Nozaki’s manga. She is very small with two red ribbons in her hair. Her constantly trying and failing at getting Nozaki to understand her feelings is sad yet it is hilarious! I cackled at each failure because she just has this look on her face like “really? Did he not understand what I just said?” She sets herself up to fail, but it doesn’t matter when love is involved!

Mikoto “Mikorin” Mikoshiba – Mikorin looks like the general delinquent type/bad boy which means he’s a cool popular ish fellow with a lot talent. IN TYPICAL ANIME! He does have talent, but he is a shy boy with an ego problem. He has to be reaffirmed of his awesomeness to confirm that he has some use in this world. He has a ton of charm that he hates to use because he finds it too embarrassing. The stuff he says sounds like they come straight out of a manga or something. Eventually he will turn red right after saying one of those things lol. He draws all the accessories of Nozaki’s manga. In his words, He is an eternal love hunter. Yes you are…yes you are lol.

Yuzuki “Lorelei” Seo – One complete asshole. Seo is the queen of being a smartass. She is really oblivious to everyone’s feelings. She will make sarcastic, rude, very mean comments to anyone she runs by. I think in her off time she makes boarderline offensive comments too. You can say she speaks without thinking sometimes. She is always being chased by teachers for skipping class. She also is in the choir club. She has the nickname “Lorelei” because of her as my notes put it “badass singing” voice. She pops up every now and then, but when she is on the screen you will be laughing.

Hirotaka “Waka” Wakamatsu – Waka is the freshman. At first, I thought he was Nozaki’s sibling. I’m glad I was wrong. He shows up later in the series, but plays a role in getting mangas done. He plays basketball for his school. He is in charge of screentone for Nozaki’s manga or he just does it the best. He sleeps to the music of Lorelei and doesn’t know who it is. Seo likes him I think and he can’t stand her….what the hell am I doing…just watch the show. Waka is great! Senpai definitely notices you.

Masayuki Hori – Hori is the captain of the drama club. He used to act, but stopped because he was short or because he found a protégé? I don’t really know. He still can act he just chooses not to. I don’t get it. His demeanor made me think he wasn’t even a student. He is a junior, but you wouldn’t think that. You would think he is a teacher or something I swear. He is always chasing Kashima and making sure she comes to class. I think he likes Kashima or just wants to protect her. No idea. Hori is also in charge of making the backgrounds for Nozaki’s manga. They have a deal. Hori is great overall.

Yuu Kashima – Yuu Kashima is known as “The Prince of the School”. She is the Prince of the school. She is basically Tamaki Suou from Ouran Host Club. She basically all the girls of the school and can out charm any man on the show. She has a fan club it seems of all the girls in the school. I will say she is adorable. She looks like she comes straight ouf of one of Nozaki’s mangas. The male lead as a girl pretty much. Kashima gets in trouble because of charming all the girls. She misses classes and club activities resulting in Hori finding her. She looks up to Hori as well! I think she likes him too! She is also best friends with Mikorin. Kashima would wreck any male on any rom com. Kashima is Ms. Steal Your Girl.

Soundtrack: 8
The opening theme is pretty cool. I listened through about 7 episodes straight. It is by Masayoshi Oishi and it is called “Seems It Can’t Be Anyone Other Than You”. Thank you internet for that translation. The ending theme song was pretty nice too. It was performed by Ari Ozawa and it is called Uramote Fortune. It is a great song. I liked it and usually let it play out most of the time. It was great. The ambient soundtrack was cool too….I can’t really speak much about the entire soundtrack since I did not hear it. The songs I did hear was pretty good.

Additional Comments
Season 2??? Please do a season 2. I need more of this show to exist. Hell I’ll take an OVA, just give me something!!!

Review Conclusion
Overall, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun is pretty damn hilarious. You will understand this once you watch it. This show is quite special and does the rom com genre correct. It felt great to watch a show that wasn’t exactly like a rom com. I feel like the characters carry the show. The story isn’t that important, but the scenarios and situations are. You could put any of these people in any scenario and they could make comedy gold out of it.  Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun is highly recommended by me! If you want to laugh for 12 episodes, damn it go and watch this show! You will have a blast!!

I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying Review

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying.

STOP! You just got married to someone who is the polar opposite of you in such a way that you question why you are together in the first place! WHAT DO YOU DO!? TELL ME! “YOU….well….umm….you get a divorce right because love is dead?”

“You say screw it, I effed up and I can’t turn back now?”

“Can I go now sir, you are scaring me?”

YEAH get out of here kid go enjoy being a teen or something.

I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying is my future life.

I feel as if my future wife would not have any idea to my witty references towards anime, pro wrestling, video games or music and I may not have a clue to her normal life references. We are an odd couple, but we get each other. This is the most important part. You see if you can’t tell I am a blerd if you didn’t know, borderline otaku to some. If you don’t know what a blerd is…well look it up. Do the same for Otaku. If you are too lazy to that, this means the “popular women” wouldn’t come near me for the love game. I would be type casted as that friend who has good advice, but is troubled or something. However if a gorgeous well liked dimepiece (and her parents) were cool with me asking her hand in marriage…well I win lol. When I watched this anime, it felt like I was looking into the future of what could be. Enough of “ME” talk. Let’s get a couple things clear. This show is three minutes long. It is a short form style of anime. Most of these shows run from fifteen minutes to five. Three minutes isn’t unusual, but it definitely gets the job done in this series. Second thing to know this show is this show is a slice of life/comedy. This means it follows daily life, no dragons or mythical creatures or battles here. Finally, it is awesome.

Let’s dive into I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying.

Story: 9/10
The story follows the daily lives our two main protagonists, Hajime and Kaoru Tsunashi. These two are newlyweds and basically are going through life together. Even if they don’t really get each other. The following internal dialogue from Kaoru pretty much sets up the mood of the entire show.

Kaoru: I wonder why we got married, Was it because we’re able to understand each other’s shortcomings? Or was it because there’s no gap between our ideals and reality? Maybe we can come to love these faults. Nothing special has happened so far, yet I’m somehow happy.

This dialogue speaks volumes doesn’t it? It is so beautiful yet vulnerable at the same time. The unsureness of being in love with someone you never expected is glorious. This unsureness also invites and accepts the crazy hijinks that comes down the road. TRUST ME there are some really messed up shenanigans that come in the 13 episodes. I simply love it. *coughs* I just used that word….oh my heavens. What matters is the relationship between Hajime & Kaoru is understood between them and the rest of the world doesn’t need to know why. Granted there isn’t much objection of the two being together in the anime.

I’ll tell you this in thirteen episodes this anime tells a better story than most twenty-four episode shows. I cannot spoil exactly what that is, but it will make sense once you watch it. Do not think it is just a short form comedy show, there is a story of newlyweds being told leading to a great setup up for the second season. It even pokes fun at itself in the final episode as if this show was never going to have a second season! HAHA!

Animation: 8.5/10
The animation in this show was handled by DAX Productions, Seven & Dream Creations. DAX Productions is a familiar group because they also worked on the last show I reviewed Amagi Brilliant Park. The shows animation varies from time to time. There are times where the animation is paying tribute to another show by imitating the art or having one of the characters do signature movement from another show. One moment that stood out to me was the nod to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Congratulations is all I have to say lol. Overall, I loved all the nods to different shows and the general art.

Characters: 9.5/10

Main Characters
Kaoru Tsunashi – Kaoru is Hajime’s wife. Her last name before marriage was Samura Kaoru is a hardworker and a hard drinker haha. She works at an office which basically a normal nine to five. She is a blonde, but that doesn’t mean she is stupid. She tries to understand her husband and I think deep down she knows exactly what to do to make her husband do what she wants. Hey isn’t that all women who know their man? I kid, I kid not. One instance of this was when Kaoru got Hajime to go to the movies. I won’t ruin that for you haha. Kaoru is awesome and hilarious. One cool lady for one weird fellow!

Hajime Tsunashi – Hajime is the otaku husband of Kaoru. If you don’t know what an otaku is by now, let me spell it out for you. THIS IS A PERSON WITH OBSESSIVE INTEREST IN SOMETHING. NOW, Hajime is a big otaku for anime, manga and video games. So he references plenty of different animes that may have went under my radar. I know for sure he referenced Evangelion when he said “If it’s a boy Shinji, If it’s a girl, Rei”. Hahahahah! Hajime is definitely me in a way lol. Both Kaoru & Hajime are my favorites. He is THE definition of the COOL otaku in an anime. He isn’t so over the top with the references that he is annoying, but he is subtle enough with his one liners that you’ll grow to love him. A strange guy with a bombshell wife!

Supporting Characters
Tadashi – He is Kaoru’s uncle. I mistakenly thought he was Kaoru’s father by how overprotective he was over Kaoru. I would say he may be the only small objection to the two being together. His scenes are hilarious and remind me that every uncle is protective over his niece. ESPECIALLY if he took part in raising his niece!

Miki – DESTINY F*CKER! This is one of the few friends of Hajime. I assume they are friends because Hajime met him online in a forum or something. Actually, to quote Hajime “he is more of a sacrifice”. Let’s call him a friendacrifice. This will make sense once you know why…please watch the show!

Youta Tsunashi – This fellow is Hajime’s little brother. His very effeminate little brother who is in college, but looks like he is in grade school. He has all the qualities of a girl and I thought it was his little sister. I though the He was a typo for a while lol. He definitely gets all of Hajime’s references because well he grew up with them. He also writes yaoi or stories of love between two boy characters. He releases them on the internet as Mayotama.

Rino Juse – This is one of Kaoru’s friends. She looks like a kid, but she is a grown up. That’s about all I can say about her.

Soundtrack: 10/10
There is no opening theme, but the closing theme to this show is infectious. I dare you to try and skip that song. The ending theme is called “Iikagen ni Shite, Anata” sung by Kaoru & Hajime. That’s right baller ass couple shit right there. GET ON THERE LEVEL!!! They are the stars and they sing the ending theme song! The song is 30 seconds long for the show and about 3 minutes and 21 seconds for the full deal. The 30 seconds are all you need to love this song. I believe the translation is “In Sloppy, You” or something like that. Now excuse me while I listen to the full version and jam!

Additional Mentions

I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying is one of the best short form slice of life comedies I have seen. It is mostly funny, sometimes dramatic, and maybe surprising at points ICUWMHIS has plenty of re-watch value! I’ve watched the show about three times now lol. If you have 43 minutes and 30 seconds, you can finish this entire anime in one day (I did the math for you). This anime really encapsulates the complexity of relationships people cannot understand. The nerd and the popular chick, the bad boy and the good girl, the football jock and the weird goth chick, the list of odd relationships people don’t understand go on and on. We may not understand those relationships, but the people involved in those do. I feel like this anime proves that. The hardworking cool woman is married to the weird otaku guy. Strange at first glance by some, but to them it is perfect harmony. I sure believe it is.

Amagi Brilliant Park Review

THE ANIME REVIEWS HAVE BEGUN! I had to choose between to series to start today. It was either “I Got An Issue” or the anime reviews. I figured I should do the one that I was supposed to do since last month! These! I hope you enjoy this review of Amagi Brilliant Park. I must say it doesn’t look that bad for a first timer of reviews! Enjoy!

Amagi Brilliant Park

What happens when a sixteen year old genius is held hostage at gunpoint and must save a dying park by? You get hijinks is what. Welcome to Amagi Brilliant Park! A park where magic is real, mascots are really mascots and world’s collide. This is Amagi Brilliant Park. A 13 episodic comedy/magic show which debuted in October of last year. It is…strange how I came across this anime. I saw Kotaku doing a poll of the best animes of 2014 and the name just caught me. This show didn’t have many votes, but I decided learn more about it at myanimelist.net. The plot seemed hilarious out of context, but once you really look at the context the plot seems unbelievable. I will tell you this show is crazy. It did not disappoint. I enjoyed watching the show from start to finish. This anime has its moments, but it did leave some unanswered questions towards the end that made me mad. I’ll tell you now that this review is spoiler free. However, I am going to touch base on two particular unanswered questions in the show. It won’t ruin the story I promise. It is just something that really bothered me once it was over. So let’s talk a little bit about Amagi Brilliant Park.

Story: 7/10

As I said before, our main character, Seiya Kanie, is held at gun point by this mysterious girl named Isuzu Sento. He is asked on a date by Sento where he unwillingly accepts. I mean you would accept too if a gun is pointed at you and the shooter is very attractive. This brings us to the first time we see Amagi Brilliant Park and boy is it a dump! There is barely anyone in the park, the different parts of the park we are introduced to are shoddy and broken, AND it is right next to a sex or love hotel by accident which made me chuckle. After some jokes and gags, we meet the manager of the park named Latifa Fleuranza. She explains to Seiya that she is from a place called Maple Land and this park is full of magic. What is she some Queen? Oh my…it is Queen Latifa. Unfortunately, it is the worst park in Japan despite her being a queen. She tells Seiya that the park is in danger of shutting down. You see a group called Amagi development ran by the antagonist, Kurisu Takaya (say it fast because it sounds like another celebrity from America), wants the land. So instead of hiring someone with a business degree or bringing together a team to prevent this from happening…they enlist a 16 year old know it all. This makes sense in the world of Maple Land! To absolutely make sure Seiya can fix this problem, Latifa gives Seiya magic powers by kissing him. The power of mind reading! As if 16 year old needs to know that! This makes Seiya pass out and the hijinks begin. The story takes a wild twist once the stakes are revealed. Let’s just say those stakes make this story go from 0 to a nice 90 miles per hour IF you become attached to the characters. I remember scratching my head and just wondering why the stakes had to be so serious in such a funny show. It threw me off. Overall, the story told in 13 episodes work. I was expecting a better pay off from two things, but I guess that is in the Manga.

Animation: 8/10

The animation was done by Kyoto Animation. From what I saw the show was drawn and animated greatly. I don’t know a lot about art, but I can tell when a show looks crisps, sharp and pretty compared to a sloppy show. There were a couple of scenes that reused the same animations specifically the fight scenes between Moffle and Seiya. Besides that I enjoyed looking at this anime. Great stuff by KyoAni!

Characters 9/10

My favorite part has come! The characters! I must say, the characters of this anime were great for comedy. I couldn’t see these characters in the same light if this show was going to be a dramatic light comedy magic anime. I will say most of them are over the top.

So let’s start with our main characters.

Seiya Kanie – As I said before, Seiya is a sixteen year old narcissistic genius. He is a former child actor who used to go by the name Seiya Kodama. There isn’t much revealed about that which made me pretty mad. I would have loved to know why he stopped acting and went so far as changing his name. We get some excuse, but nothing that ever goes into depth. Anyways, Seiya can be a smartass you love to hate, but deep down he really cares for saving the park. It is for personal reasons? No. It is because he wants to be known as the guy who saved the park? No. From what I can understand he just wants to do it. I think deep down Seiya likes helping people out of impossible odds. Don’t doubt Seiya. He’ll prove you wrong or just read your mind to prove you wrong.

Isuzu Sento – The emotionless general, the stoic goddess, the gun toting tyrant, these are some of the names I gave Isuzu Sento. Sento is all of these things. If something doesn’t go right there will be a gun in someone’s face, if two people are fighting and won’t stop there will be two people shot, if a joke goes on too long someone is getting shot, etc. Basically if something goes wrong, you will be shot. Beneath that tough persona is girl who cares deeply about the park and will do anything to make sure it stays afloat. She struggles with her feelings towards certain people just like any 16 girl year old does and it is cute. It is funny how she reacts to people teasing her because of her emotions. Sento would probably shoot me for writing about that.

Kurisu Takaya – This is our bad guy. I didn’t really get much from him. Maybe because he doesn’t get a lot of screen time. There is another reason he wants the park so much, but we cannot get into that just watch the show. He is pretty generic to me. A generic villain with a funny name. Shame he wasn’t hilarious.

Latifa Fleuranza – Latifa is the princess of Maple Land and the manager of the park. She is very cheerful and optimistic. She dresses up in a white dress most of the time we see her. She looks like a child. Let’s just say that. She is very cute. She is always concerned about the park’s future and the staff. She is also a reason why the stakes in this show become extremely serious. Watch and see! We see her in the show probably seven times total and each time she impacts the story. I think she was a great base character to keep the show rolling instead of being an over the top princess with an over the top cast.

Supporting Cast

Moffle – Moffle is the fairy of candies. He inhabits “Moffle’s Sweet House”. He is a mouse with a hat, the leader and head mascot of the park. I mentioned before he and Seiya fight a lot and that’s because they don’t get along. Well eventually they do, but they don’t get along. It all stems from Seiya calling him a rip off of another mascot. Moffle hates being called a rip off. I thought Seiya was referencing Mickey Mouse when he said something along lines of “Mackey”. I was wrong. I did some research and found out he is a rip off of Bonta-Kun from “Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu”. Now excuse me while I guard against a barrage of punches.

Macaron – The fairy of music. He is founded at Macaron’s Music Theater. He has a short fuse just like me and will go find himself or inspiration when he is tired of music. Ok I tried to cover for him. I tried to cover for an anime character. He just doesn’t play the violin when he is inspired. He looks like a sheep and his best friend from my understanding is Tiramie.

Tiramie – My favorite supporting character! Every time Tiramie is on the screen I am laughing my ass off. He (despite having a very girly voice. I thought Tiramie was a girl) is the fairy of flowers. He can be found at Tiramy’s Flower Adventure. Picture a love boat ride for couples or lonely people who hate themselves…that is Tiramy’s flower adventure. He takes the form of a pink dog and he is extremely perverted. Tiramie is a professional when working, but off the clock Tiramie is basically Quagmire from Family Guy minus all the sleeping around. I don’t know if he does get laid, but he is on the prowl a lot. Tiramie said something so funny that I was crying. He referred to female masturbation as “itches the ditch” and I died laughing. It was the classiest moment of the show and I learned something LMFAO! Tiramie is the best supporting character when it comes to jokes!

The Elementario Fairies – These fairies had an entire episode dedicated to them so I had to include them. If you could not tell by the name, these fairies represent the four elements. They can be found at Elementario! You have Muse who is the leader of the group. She controls the fairy of water and she works very hard to make her group awesome. Then you have Salama the fairy of fire who is very lazy. Kobori, the fairy of earth who is stoic and likes peace. Finally we have Sylphy who is the fairy of wind who is extremely dumb. No let’s say expressive. She puts a new spin on the word airhead (rimshot). Despite this, she is the most balanced out of the three. She doesn’t have a con unless being too expressive is a con. The Elementario fairies are great for the show. They didn’t grow on me, but I enjoyed their screen time.

Soundtrack: 7/10

I don’t have much to say here. The opening song “Extra Magic Hour” by Akino with bless4 will get stuck in your head if you listen to it enough. I would not allow that to happen because of one small issue I had with the song. The claps in the song. There is only one when I expect two on the two beat. I don’t know why that specific gripe elicit that reaction, but I didn’t like it. The ending theme song “Let’s Go to Elementario!” by Brilliant 4 didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t a bad song, but it wasn’t a song I would sit through to get to the previews. I just skipped it. The soundtrack you hear throughout the show was very fitting.

Additional Mentions

Stick around for the previews of each episode. Those segments are called Show and Tell and they showcase a piece of the park. The delivery alone makes the segment worthwhile.

I kept calling the show Amagiri for some reason. I don’t know why I kept doing that.

I have to address the three things that never really get answered in the show. One is the love arc they started. I won’t spoil who, but it will be obvious if you have been paying attention. Two characters grow fond of each other. It is more obvious on one character’ end than the other, but the show never really resolves that. It just ends with “hey…that’s it…you know what they feel!” I just felt like that was cheap way to resolve that.

Two, there isn’t much backstory on why Seiya stopped acting. There was no mention of a moment or a flashback where Seiya wanted to stop acting as a child. I wish the show would have picked up on that

And finally three, the missed opportunity of Seiya’s magic power. Sure he uses it when he needs it, but the show’s writers could have included some funnier moments where Seiya abuses that power. I thought that could have been great with the type of person Seiya is. It just bummed me out we don’t see much of it.

Conclusion: 8.1.

Amagi Brilliant Park is very fun show with a decent story and great cast of characters. The soundtrack is nice even if I don’t care that much for the ending song. The art and animation is done extremely well by Kyoto Animation. Shoutout to Vivid fan subs for doing a great job translating and subbing the show. They are a great group who do quality work.

I think teenagers and young adults would like this show. It felt like that was the demographic. This show doesn’t think its viewers are stupid or treats them like they are dumb.

I would recommend this anime to anyone who wants to watch something quick and funny. It is 13 episodes! You have four hours to watch the show in its entirety. Don’t expect a super heavy show here. It is going to make you laugh and maybe tear up once at the most. There are a couple of loose ends that don’t get tightened up, but besides that the show is a fun one. It was one of the funnier shows of 2014 next to Kill La Kill. Give it a shot you might like Amagi Brilliant Park.
