PARASYTE REVIEW

PARASYTE 3

Do you love Science fiction? Do you love Aliens? Do you love horror? Do you love questioning all of mankind? If so, you need to watch Parasyte. Parasyte is the journey of a sixteen year old Shinichi Izumi and Migi, the Parasyte. Think of Invasion of the Body Snatchers except the pods are replaced with Parasytes along with so many other things. LOOK THE PREMISE IS LIKE THE SHORT FILM/BOOK, BUT THIS SHOW IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL ON HOW THEIR STORY IS TOLD. This is Parasyte: The Attack on Humanity and Development of a Species! Some say it is an overrated anime, I don’t believe that. I think Parasyte is great series that is worth at least one full watch.

STORY: 8.5

I could just spoil it all for you, but that wouldn’t be a fun review now would it? As I have mentioned previously, the story is kind of like Invasion of the Bodysnatcher. Parasitic aliens decide to make a one way trip to Earth picking Japan for their residence because…well Japan is a good vacation spot for aliens along with Maine. Weird stuff happens in Maine. These Parasytes (look that’s how it is spelled in the show, leave me alone grammar senpai) burrow into the brains through ears or nose of their targets when they are vulnerable for feeding and other purposes. Our protagonist Izumi Shinchi gets visited by one lone Parasyte named Migi. Migi tries to take over Shinichi’s brain, but he fails and decides to burrows through his arm instead. Migi ends up becoming Izumi’s right hand retaining all of his knowledge and personality. From there, a bond is formed between the two and it is not like Izumi was like “OH MY GOD! YES A PARASYTE HAND WITH POWERS! NOW I WILL BE COOL!”. He was freaked out at first, but once he learns what other Parasytes are doing to humans Shinichi finds his purpose: to fight for humanity. From the Government knowing about the Parasytes to the Shinichi’s majors transformations to the Parasytes trying to better themselves to balancing a social life, this story has many twists, turns, and cliffhangers that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

CHARACTERS: 9

The cast of Parasyte contains a wide range of personalities. I am sure you will become attached to at least one character in this show. Our main characters are Migi & Izumi. I enjoyed Migi the most for his intelligence and heartlessness. Migi wants to learn more about where he came from and has no time for anyone getting in his way. He may be heartless, but he does care enough to protect and co-operate with his host. Izumi Shinichi is more of a nerd transitioning into fearless machine and transforming overall as a person. Together they become a team that learns and relies on each other. The supporting cast is pretty amazing. For example, Izumi’s best friend and possible love interest Murano Satomi. She is always making sure Izumi is okay and still Izumi. How about Kana Kimishima is a delinquent who through great story telling becomes something more than just a bully. Finally, Takeshi Hirokawa is a person of power who knows about the Parasytes and is doing something about it. There are so many supporting characters that play their parts very well in this show. Without the supporting cast, PARASYTE would have been quite cliche and boring. It definitely would not have as much depth.

ANIMATION: 8.5

The animation was handled by MADHOUSE who is behind some amazing anime like Death Note, No Game No Life, The new Hunter X Hunter reboot, and ONE PUNCH MAN! I couldn’t find anything animated poorly. MADHOUSE always does a wonderful job with the animation. The Animation wasn’t mesmerizing, but it was far from awful and okay. A stellar job from MADHOUSE! You can always count on MADHOUSE!

PARASYTE 6

SOUNDTRACK: 8

The opening theme “Let Me Hear” by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas is very likable. It is like heavy metal meets autotune which I found pretty cool. I enjoyed the song, but I didn’t listen to it all the way through for every episode like I did ONE PUNCH MAN. It is something you can hear 23 times straight through and enjoy, but I did skip it to get right in to the story as it progressed.”Let Me Hear” fits the overall tone of the show as well. It is kind of dark yet, it pumps you up for the next episode. It’s not catchy, besides the opening lines of the song, but I don’t think Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas meant it to be. Great song though. The ending theme “IT’S THE RIGHT TIME” by Daichi Miura  is perfect for this show. With all the chaotic events that go on in this show, it is good to hear a soft and delicate ballad about moving forward and human emotions (which play a huge part in Izumi’s progression..). I enjoyed this theme more than the opening theme and I like heavy metal, but Daichi Miura’s voice is like silk to me. I really enjoyed it. I must point out ALL of the background music was Incredible too! It was like dub-step meets trap in some cases. The background tunes sometimes felt out of place during some of the drama, but when it works, it works really well!

Additional Thoughts

PARASYTE does not need a sequel. I feel like everything wrapped up very well. There weren’t any real loose ends I could think of. PARASYTE does not need spin-off show either. I know one could be created  about another person with a PARASYTE years after the events in this anime, but it is not necessary. I only cried one time during this whole anime and that was in episode 18. 18 is such a tearjerker. I really enjoyed PARASYTE and I would watch it again at a later date with people so I can get different perspectives of this anime.

Conclusion

Should you kill something that’s trying to live on your planet or should you let it be and watch what happens? Do you let the PARASYTES or body snatchers continue to feed and research humanity learning their purpose or do you do something about it to make your world a safer place? Do you gain more sympathy for an organism if you are affected by one especially an organism that is intelligent and has a personality? Would this narrative expose completely different perspective if Izumi was simply fighting alien organism for humanity? I can answer that last question with of course! It would be every movie and book about humans fighting aliens for mankind. PARASYTE will make you think about your humanity and all of those that inhabit the world we live in. I believe Izumi’s speech at the end of this anime sums up all these points in a much greater fashion and better than I ever could. PARASYTE is different. it is a psychological joyride with heavy dosages of Sci-fi and horror. If you like different types of anime out of your comfort zone give it a watch. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it because everyone has different tastes, but IT IS WORTH A WATCH. Sure we aren’t half fish or half alien organism, but to quote Izumi “it would be human arrogance to think we understand everything that is not human”.

Overall Rating: 8.7

Case Dread

I told you at the beginning of the year I was going to attempt to a write a story each month! Well I delivert! I mean delivered lol! This story comes to us from a random monologue I wrote when I was on break last year. I found it and decided to write a story around it. I must tell you the original draft is nothing like this. It came about from a cut I had on my tongue and yeah it was stupid. It sucked. I changed everything about it and came up wit this story on the fly instead. Enjoy or pick it a part like animals. SO STORYTIME EVERYONE!!!!!! LOOK BEHIND YOU!!! There is nothing or no one there…so you should just LOOK DOWN!!!

Case Dread

Hello rookie. My name is Rob Pearsons. I am a detective for the Las Vegas Metropolitan police force. Back when I was a rookie, I am going to tell you a story….a life changing story. I feel like it will help any rookie that comes joins the force. I don’t want any of you rooks to make the same mistake that I made back then. Please don’t ask too many questions. Take more initiative whenever you have the chance.

The date was May 5th, 2019. It was a typical Friday evening at the office. At the time, this case was going on for a couple of years. It was a case that bothered me and my partner, Luis. Luis has been in the detective branch for about 9 years and has tenure you can say. Luis took me under his wing the first day I joined the detective branch of Las Vegas. He taught me a lot and I learned I am much more patient than he is. He was a hotwire who would quickly shout, slam and turn interrogation rooms into disaster sites. I was the calmer, reasonable detective. I guess you can say this was a perfect match. I can’t say he didn’t rub off on me in after my rookie days. As much as Luis has seen during his time here, he never came across nothing like this…and this was an ideal yet terrifying case to begin your career with.

We’ve been working on this odd case of people going missing for a day or two and then reappearing in society like nothing ever happened.  This case sounded like it was from something from a twisted novel and the victims never wanted to speak about what happened. They were traumatized clearly. Some of these people turn pale or would just be silent whenever we found them and tried to get any information from them. What could this person have done to disrupt their psyche like this?

All of my wondering was about to come to an end though because finally the police caught the guy. This man was caught around Wednesday night after someone was reporting strange noises from a warehouse. An abandoned, locked warehouse. There should be no one in there however it was the perfect place to commit a crime. Was our suspect just sloppy this night or did he purposely let us catch him for something bigger? Who Knows? The victim was also brought in for questioning. I told the chief that Luis and I wanted to interrogate the victim first because I had to know what they wouldn’t tell. However, chief demanded we interrogate the suspect first….and so we did.

I wish we didn’t though….because maybe just maybe we could have gotten a hint to what was going on.

Luis & I went to the line up to see this man face to face. I was shocked to see this 5 foot seven inch lean Caucasian man wearing what looked like prescription glasses.  At first I thought “This must be a mistake. I was expecting a hulking brute or a tall mongoloid who had a record.”, but then I thought “anyone is capable of crime…remember that”. It just bothered me he didn’t fit the description I was envisioning in my head. I could totally kick this guy’s ass without breaking a sweat. He looked like those geeky kids in high school. I knew better than to think only a certain type of person commits crime, but this was just ridiculous. Luis took one look at him from the line up and burst out laughing, but stopped immediately once his eyes met with the suspect. Luis walked out to the hallway waiting on me. I walked out, grabbed his file and began to read. He was squeaky clean. His name was Colton, a law abiding citizen with no record prior to coming here. I must say I was confused why he was there. I don’t know why he was caught in the warehouse with possibly his next victim, Ronald Wayne. Could this guy be the one behind all of this or was someone else pulling the strings? I was about to find out.

“Something is off about this guy Pearsons” Luis said.

“Says the guy who was laughing at him a couple of minutes ago” I responded.

Luis fired back “Seriously, man something is wrong with him. I laughed, but I saw something in his eyes and that guy can’t be right”.

“Luis. I got that vibe once you walked out. It felt like this little pip squeak was someone you didn’t want to be alone with right?” I said

“Exactly man…I had to get out of there. I don’t know how you stayed in there any longer”.

“Well Luis, he is going to be alone with us. We are going to find out what is going on. You got my back?” I said.

Luis said “Of course brother.” as we headed to the interrogation room.

Once we made it to the interrogation room we took our seats, went over notes and began to wait. My excitement at the time was bubbling like a volcano as each minute went by. It normally doesn’t take twenty minutes to bring in a suspect around here especially one with no record. I didn’t get it. At the thirty minute mark, Colton was brought to the interrogation room with a grin. It was more of a grin that little kids make when they are caught doing anything bad. I know I saw a grin, but everyone else told me at the time he was expressionless walking in. Luis immediately stood up once Colton walked in. I wanted to ask Luis why he was acting so weird, but I didn’t want to alert chief & company behind the glass or Colton. I have no idea what this guy is capable of. I got through the pleasantries of introducing myself and my partner as we began the questioning. I noticed that Colton was really eager for the interrogation. It’s like he wanted me to ask him why he did it….

Anyways Luis & I began.

“Colton, you know what you are in here for?”

He laughed and nodded his head.

Luis slammed his hands on the table in the traditional good cop bad cop fashion to intimidate Colton. Colton didn’t flinch at all. Instead he stared at Luis in way that made me cringe. Colton’s eyes look like they were saying “come on tough guy…I eat guys like you for breakfast”. Luis sat down and put his hands in his lap like a scolded child. I paused for a bit out of shock because I never would have thought the hotwire Luis would be reduced to a small child. I bet chief and company were shocked too. You don’t see this every day. Our usual shtick was not going to go down today. I continued after Colton broke his stare off of Luis and focused back on me.

“So Colton why did you do it? Rather what were you about to do to Mr. Wayne in that warehouse?”

Colton smiled like his crush noticed him and bashfully said

“Oh…nothing. Just a little branding.”

“Just a little branding Mr. Colton?” Luis said

“Yeah…branding Mr. Luis…you both know what that is right?” Colton said.

We both nodded and the room grew silent till our next question. I was confused by that response. Most suspects reply with the go to “I’m not talking”, “I want to see my lawyer”, “I’m not telling you anything” or the very classy “Fuck you”. Colton on the other hand would just stare and a smile at us. Colton also put his hands on the table and cracked his knuckles with his thumbs. Such an odd gestures.

“Pearsons this guy can’t be serious right??” Luis whispered to me.

Colton must have heard Luis “yeah I’m serious. Hehe what’s the big deal about a branding? Animals need to be branded after all Mr. Luis”

“You heard me Mr. Colton?” Luis asked Colton

“You don’t need to whisper Mr. Luis. I can hear you. If you need to say something speak”.

Colton began to wave and type at the mirror. He must be alerting chief that he could see him and the boys behind the mirror. Most suspects don’t think the room has a fake mirror. No I can tell you then none of the suspects we brought in that room knew there was a fake mirror. Colton was a different breed. I continued my interrogation.

“Colton is it possible that you are the man behind all those people missing and reappearing all those years? Are you working with anyone? Are you—?”

Colton stopped smiling. His face grew a bit somber as he looked down and simply said in a menacing tone “You should know the answer right detective? Why do you ask so many questions? There was a mark that probably went unnoticed once they reappeared in society, but each of their stories should be the same. They are found…they don’t speak. Am I correct detective or no?”

A chill grew between Luis and I. Luis slammed his fist on the desk again

“What do you think we are fools? YOU ARE THE ONE BEHIND THIS!”

“Am I the one behind this…or is it you want a face to blame behind the happenings Mr. Luis? I suggest you take a seat if you want me to speak anymore” Colton said.

I put my hand on Luis’ fist and shook my head no. I gestured for him to sit down which Luis did. Luis look a bit disturbed because his tactics were not working. Normally I would let Luis continue to blow up, but now wasn’t the time to lose our cool. Colton was unlike any person we came across and in order to get the information we needed we had to play it smart.

He was right. Over the years each interviews was exactly the same. All the victims were petrified to utter a single word about what happened to them. The only thing they would mumble is something about a mark. A mark they could not pin point. This scared me then and it scares me now. Colton knew we knew all the details. He knew we did our homework.

So I cut the shit and just got to the point.

“Colton what is the branding?”

Colton looked up bright eyed, smiled, sticked out his tongue and pointed at his temple

“That’s the branding” Colton said. “It’s nothing life threatening, but…”

Luis cut him off and shouted “What is that supposed to mean?”

Colton said ” In due time both of you will learn..”

I cut in “Why did people go missing for a couple of days?”

Colton replied “Why does darkness envelope the world Mr. Pearsons?”

“What…What did you do to them? Why won’t they talk?!” I said.

“Mr. Pearsons, Mr. Luis….do you really want to know? The answer lies within us all”

Colton smiles again waving at the fake mirror again except this time with more energy. He began to laugh as the room grew silent. All Luis and I could do is grit our teeth and watch this mad man begin to explain in his twisted head what happened.

I wrote a note on a piece of paper and slid it to Luis. It simply said “Just let him talk…we are falling into exactly what he wants us to do”. Luis nodded and we both just stared at Colton.

Colton took a deep breath and chuckled. Colton looked at both of us and simply said

“Are you ready everyone?”

“The answer that you seek is fear. Maybe you two will understand and maybe you won’t. Fear. When safety is taken away, when that net people rely on so much is taken from them do you know what they do? Hehehe they panic. I…no we….no they…they love to see them panic….Some are in the wrong place at the wrong time…and some have it coming to them. I won’t incriminate them or myself. I am not stupid after all. The people who went missing and then reappeared those were the stupid ones. So where is the crime gents? A missing person turning up a couple days later alive? What is exactly the problem? Yes, it is true they are never harmed, but they are always branded.  Do you understand gentlemen?”

Luis & I were puzzled by this response. To this day I am not sure what he meant by that.

I asked “So you torture them to brand them?

Luis chimed in “You kidnap them to brand them and then let them go?

Colton just shook his head no, stared at us, took a deep breath and cryptically said

“The man with too many questions will never find his answers”. Colton faintly waves again at the fake mirror.

As soon as we were about to ask another question, the chief came in and had Colton taken away.

When Mr. Wayne was brought in, did not want to comment all he said was “I can’t find the mark…I’m fine.”

Luis and I were finished interrogating for the day. Before we headed back to our offices, I remember we had a short conversation.

“This has been a strange day hasn’t it Pearsons?” Luis said.

“Yeah Luis, I have no idea what’s going on and it seems like we got nowhere.”

“Nothing sat well with me for today and you are right. Something is not right in the air”

“Something does seem off about all this Pearsons. So close to finding an answer to this bizarrely long case”

“It is like we are right by the answer…what does this disturbing Colton or people do to everyone that has them scared to talk?”

“I have no idea. We will have to interrogate him again tomorrow. Be careful going home today Pearsons. Be safe and tell the wife I said hello.

“I will and we must interrogate him again. He is just trying to throw us off. You tell your family I said hello as well. Be careful going home Luis.” I said.
I went back to my office and sat at my desk. I was going over the file again to see if I was missing anything details until I got a knock at the door. The door opened, an intern handled me a file that had something related to the case. I took the folder, thanked the intern and sat back at my desk.

What I saw in the folder shook me to the core. I opened the folder to find polaroids of every victim that went missing and reappeared. Some of these photos were very old and faded while a couple of them were recent and fresh. All of the photos were the same in a way. Each of the victims were posed the same with their tongues sticking out, one finger pointing at their temple and another finger pointing behind them. The uniformity of the photos had to mean something. This is until I came across the very last photo. The last photo was a photo of Mr. Wayne in the same pose as all of the victims of the past. This picture was different because it had some backwards writing on it. This looked like a phrase or something written in a small font. I pulled out a magnifying glass, small mirror and held the photo to it.

All the phrase was…

“Don’t press charges….they will be back…better than before…follow”

When the photo was held to a mirror, you can see a man tipping his hat…smiling. A man who was being pointed at. A man who looked a lot like Colton. If this was Colton, he was in every photo…he never aged. He couldn’t have been alone because someone had to take the picture…someone had to position the victims…someone else had to be helping him.

Was this Stockholm syndrome? A bad prank? Fear incarnate? What did this branding do to them? I don’t know, but with all this evidence we had him. Luis and I could finally put this case to rest because we now have someone.

Or so I thought.

The next day I was informed that Colton was released and Luis didn’t come in to work.

He never came back to work…he went missing. The tough loose cannon who taught me everything I knew went missing. Something was up and It never felt right to believe Luis could be kidnapped or worst. I never saw him again since that day of the interrogation. I don’t understand why he was “chosen” or targeted, but it rips me to my core that he has never returned.

Despite having no leads on where Luis could be, I still look for him hoping I can end this case or before something happens to me.

The creepiest part of all these mishaps is what happened to the evidence. The evidence along with all of the photos that were in the file were missing.

It’s like Colton…never existed.

The Park

Happy Late Surprises!!!! Here is something that was suppose to be posted around my birthday. I can explain why this story did not get posted on time and that’s because of a little thing called sickness. Oh and work. Sickness and work! This story was originally going to be posted on Halloween to be in the spirit, but I postponed it in order to write a good story. Then I was going to post it on my birthday, but I needed to edit it so it made sense to you the reader and myself. Work started to happen and then boom sick for two weeks! Today I got the time to finally post even though I am still a bit under the weather!!! I don’t usually dabble with horror, but I decided to challenge myself and give it a shot. SO I hope you enjoy this creepy little story I wrote called the park. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HORROR!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! ENJOYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

The Park

It is a Saturday night, 3am, lightly raining outside…no I should say the weather is that of light mist. There is fresh dew forming on the grass and the fog has set in. The park has been newly renovated from my memory. A grand reopening of my second home. Older sets were replaced with newer ones while my favorite swings got new seats and chains for optimism fun. The street lights in the park still suffer from the flickering issues yesteryear. I guess it wouldn’t be home now if there weren’t some older issues from the past right? I rubbed my temples, played with my hair and said “Welcome back to Liongrove Park.”. I made plenty of memories here. Hell I spent a good chunk of my life here. Before you jump to any assumptions, no I’m not homeless or a drug dealer. You just need to understand that Liongrove Park has been a major landmark in my life. My parents told me they met here at a party and ironically it’s where I also met my best friend, Crystal. This park is special you see. Liongrove is special….It will always be a special place. I made my way over to the new benches. I noticed the night shift guard was asleep… this is what happens when you drink a bunch caffeine and then proceed to do nothing, but look around for activity. Hell its better if the guy didn’t see me because who knows what would happen. I sat on the bench near the swings and began to reminiscence about my life. 23 years. I have been here for 23 years. I have seen so much, felt so much, loved so much…lost so much. I’m restless. I need to calm down so I popped one OxyContin to drown out this mental stress. this is not just some regular OxyContin either, this is my parents special homemade dosage of OxyContin. I was going to use it when the time was right…and I couldn’t think of a better time. Also when you don’t sleep for a day you need something to relax. Anyway it’s easier to reflect without getting too emotional…

*sigh* the story begins with my parents. Doesn’t everyone’s story start with their parents? I was 18 when the incident happened. I know most people don’t have a great relationship with their parents, but I was lucky to have these great people be my caretakers. They were my superheroes. To the world, they were unsung heroes in the field of medicine. My parents were top notch geniuses in medicine. My family always had access to exclusive medicine in our household including their own homemade stuff. My parents were close to find a cure to a huge problem, cancer. They had so much more to do…till it happened. *sighs…takes a deep breath* my mother and father took a plane to a conference to reveal their findings on cancer, but….the plane crashed….and they didn’t make it. My world crashed. How could God take away two people who did so much for me and the world, how could God be so cruel and expect me to live this life without them by my side, How could that stupid thing up there be so inconsiderate!!!? I didn’t want to hear that “it was there time” because it wasn’t God damn you it wasn’t there time *cries*

*sniffs* well at least they left me these drugs to cope *pops another Oxy* however there was one more person who was just as important as my parents. Someone who helped me throughout this entire tragedy and at least got me back to thinking I could possibly live this life honoring my parents and possibly one day continue the work they left behind and that person was…my best friend, my true love I never got to confess to, Crystal.

Crystal and I met in this very park when we were little kids. Her parents and my parents were great friends which led to many playdates together. You can say it was destiny for us to meet. I remember our first day meeting like it was yesterday. We may have been kids, but knew we would always be together no matter what the moment we locked eyes. It’s like we have known each other for a lifetime. This was one of those bonds you cannot fake with people, it was just natural. By the end of our first play date We made a promise by those swings over there that we would never leave each other side and we have been friends ever since. When my parents passed, Crystal’s family was the first to take me in and help me through this tragedy. Crystal and I grew even closer throughout this entire time. Her family was nice enough to let me stay by them and keep an eye on me till I was well enough to be on my own again. Of course during this time, I acted out and Crystal would reel me back into reality. I must say it was surprising that her parents never quit on me or kicked me out for causing so much trouble…well it wasn’t that much…just a couple of incidents. Our final year of high school came and went. We graduated together…hell I wish my parents could have saw me walk across that stage. College began soon after this. It wasn’t easy to let Crystal go…even though we both had to part ways to different schools. It financially worked in my favor if I stayed. Trust me I wanted to go with Crys. I stayed in town for school while Crystal went out of state for college. We promised to keep in touch and reunite every break. That is until our promise was interrupted by you know who…life.
I was 22. It was fall break and Crystal was coming home…she was coming home….she…she…was called home. On her way back, she was driving home till her car got smashed by a drunk driver. She died instantly. And I….hate the day I got this news at 5:30 PM. Why is everything I love being taken away from me? I hope God doesn’t think I’m Job because I don’t appreciate a test like this. I always thought that story was cruel and God should have gotten slapped for putting someone who trusted him through a sick joke like that. I am not Job. I’m tired of it. I would never wish this on anyone.
*tears up* my parents always said “be open minded”, “There is a higher power”, “The supernatural is real” and “there is an afterlife”. I am starting to think there is no higher power. Just a sick world. Crystal didn’t deserve that, my parents didn’t deserve that and I don’t deserve this. This is hell. There is no fire, no Devil, we are born into hell and the important people in our lives plus our accomplishments make this place a heaven. All my important people are gone….I don’t care about my future accomplishments…I don’t have any fight left in me. *cries*

I look at my phone, it is 4:00 am and I go for another Oxy out of the bottle when a gust of wind knocks it out my hand. “Son of a bitch” I cry. The wind and mist become more aggressive as water and sand from the sandbox hit me in the eyes. I could make out the old light flickering on and off. “Now is not the time for this” I said as I continue to look for my bottle. I could hear it rolling, but I couldn’t see where. I follow the sound as it leads me to the swings…..I hear the bottle stop somewhere on the ground as I begin to crawl for it. “This is irritating” I say as I wipe water and sand from my eyes. Once cleaned, I began to feeling around for the bottle on the ground. For some odd reason though the wind suddenly stopped….the air became dead. I couldn’t understand what was going on for the life of me. The fog grew heavier while the light continued to flicker on and off teasing me about where the bottle could be. “This is strange…odd weather” I said to myself as I began to cough. I saw my Oxy bottle near one of the swings thanks to one helpful flicker of the light. I reached out to grab my bottle and when I did my hand also the wind grew ice cold. The light stopped flickering and I was surrounded by fog shivering and coughing. I quickly took one more pill to soothe my pain from all that reflecting. I don’t think I should have done that.  “W-w-w-what’s happening here??” I said. The light was brighter than usual. I could see out the corner of my eyes I was still surrounded by fog, but I could see clearly in front of me. I knew exactly where I was. Exactly in front of the swings. One of the swings were moving back and forth like someone was on them. I was afraid to look up because. “What the hell is going on?” I said. It’s 4:30 am I should be the only one in this park. I have never been this afraid to look up. The swing stopped and I saw a girl on the swings with tears in her eyes staring at me. My eyes began to water because this wasn’t any girl….this was….Crystal….

“C-C-C-Crystal??” I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. This couldn’t have been a ghost no no no I’m being irrational I’m hallucinating. That’s right it’s the drugs there is no way this is real. I HAD TO DO TOO MANY FREAKING DRUGS TO MAKE A GIRL WHO RESSEMBLES CRYSTAL APPEAR OUT OF THIN AIR RIGHT? Ghost can’t talk unless it’s like those echoic whispers that you see in games in movies right??! However…something in my gut told my logic to shut off. “Crys is that you?!” I asked. She looked at me and said clearly “yes Trent it’s me…I am Crystal and finally I made it to you”. I exclaimed “holy shit! Crys it’s you!!! Wait what do you mean finally Crystal?” She said “I have been trying to find you ever since I….” I cut her off “don’t say it. Crys I am sorry….” I reached out to touch her hand and instead of going through it like the movies…our hands touched. I held it and said “promise me, you’ll never leave me again”. She nodded, but quickly looked away. “I don’t know if I could fulfill that promise Trent. I just don’t know if that’s possible. This could be a one shot deal”. I began to question her “Why Crys…why?” She explained “I don’t know how much time I have left here Tre that’s why…why I can’t-” I interrupted her with a question “Am I hallucinating or did you go to heaven or—?” She looked puzzled and cut me off “I don’t know where I went tre. I don’t know where I’ve been for the past year. I want to apologize to you for not fulfilling our childhood promise. I’m sorry I really don’t know, but I do know I am here for now”. I started crying and Crystal hugged me. “You know Crys I have to tell you something I never got the chance to tell you. I love you”. She began to tear up and said “I figured that Tre I knew you were going to tell me if I would have made it home. I love you too.” As I held her hand the pain came back and I looked at my pill bottle on the ground. I said “Crys I’m about to do something…something in which we can be together forever.”  I took my last three Oxy and began to explain. “Crystal if this is a hallucination or real I want you to know I’m at the end of my rope. I can’t continue to live without my parents or you around me. This life is unfair and I am going to fix it. I’m going to join you wherever you are and keep our promise.” I stood up on top of the swing and checked my watch it was 5:30 am. Crystal said “Tre what are you doing? You don’t have to…do this I can figure this whole thing out and be with you through—” “No Crystal” I interrupted “you have to understand something I do not want to be here anymore. It is 5:30 in the morning the negative of when I got the news you passed away. I have always hated that time ever since because the news plays in my mind each time. We can finally be together even if that means we wander this world forever, but we get to be here together”. Crystal stood up on her swing and kissed me…”I understand and I want what’s best for you…and if this will bring you tranquility and serenity…Trent do it. I’ll be waiting for you.” Crystal got off the swing and stood with me on my holding me. I wrapped the chain around my neck tight. I could barely feel it…It didn’t matter I was going to feel great in a few minutes. The light began to flicker again. I smiled and………..

“And he jumped off of the swing. Snapping his neck instantly, hanging. If I knew he was going to do that, I would have asked him to leave the park”. I told the officer when they asked me about what I saw that night.  My name is Rob and I work the security night shifts here at the park. I have never seen something like that in my life. It was terrifying. I can recall the entire night. I was dozing off in my cruiser when I saw him enter. He looked like he was just enjoying the scenery or he was homeless about to sleep. I paid it no mind and fell asleep. I was awaken around 5:15 by a huge rock cracking my window.  A huge gust of wind came out of nowhere causing that to happen. I thought it was pranksters at first till I got out the car. It was very windy and foggy outside to the point I couldn’t see. I picked up my flashlight and my gun as I began to make my rounds around the park. I checked the gym first to see if anyone was in there causing a seen and then the guy who walked in earlier crossed my mind. He was the last person I saw before I dozed off. I wish I wasn’t too tired that day because I could have prevented this from happening. The search was now for him. There was talking and crying near the swings “that man has to be there now” I said. I flashed my light in the direction of the swings and noticed someone standing on top of the seat for the swing. He was talking to himself and began to wrap the chain around his neck. I ran over shouting and screaming at him to come down, when another big gust of wind hit me knocking the light out of my hand. I kept running to the flickering old light and that’s when I saw IT. I could make out what seemed to be the man smiling and a figure behind him holding his waist with its head in cradled on his back. Someone was with him. I heard a snap, picked up my flashlight, shined it on him to find he hung himself. The figure I saw was missing. I ran in the direction it may have run to, but it was gone. Ever since that night this park has never been the same. Rumors have been running rampant amongst the park goers.

The rumor is if you are in Liongrove park near the swings around 5:30 PM or 5:30 AM, two unoccupied swing seats will begin to swing back and forth mimicking the hanging man I saw that night…
